Timeless Beauty

medium: oil
I once read an article about a woman who lost both breasts to cancer. She recovered but, instead of implants, she chose to tattoo a rose across her chest. She said that her breast did not define her beauty; and that she could decide what was beautiful to her.
Her story inspired me to create "Timeless Beauty". The elements, in this painting, are symbols for woman and/or for beauty. The Orchids represent rare beauty, the Stocks are for affection. The Protea (below) is beautifully unique and one of the oldest flowers to inhabit our world. Her lips are for her sensuality. The pearls stand for love, purity and mysterious beauty. She holds the symbol of woman close to her heart and on her finger you can see a ring with the gaelic symbol for the three stages of a woman's life. These many characteristics sum up this beauty. A woman could never be reduced to a single symbol. She is sensitive, she is strong, she is loving, she is mysterious. She is pure, she is sensual, she is beautiful. These attributes entwine and create a bond that can only be known as the Timeless Beauty of Woman. This piece, along with "The Yellow Bra Abstract" and "Journey to the Cure" were created with the hope that someday no one will ever get breast cancer. Therefore, when any of these pieces sell (or sales of my prints and jewelry that are made from these images) a portion , of the sale, goes to a Cure for Breast Cancer.
