This bent and torn metal flag wraps around each side of the canvas. The stars evolve from the original circle of thirteen (on the left side of canvas) to the pattern of 50 (plus more someday?). And, even though we have been ripped apart over issues (symbolic chains are seen through the ripped flag), we have managed to reunite as One Nation. And we will stay united even if time, history and circumstance leave us somewhat tattered like an old flag. Our country (like this metal flag) will always endure.
